Faces & Places (woman), 2005, stainless steel, LCD screen, 1 x 1 x 2m
|
This permanent installation was commissioned by Essex County Council to represent 'Essex'. Two statues, a woman and man, have been set inside County Hall in Chelmsford. The faces of the
figures are flat screen TV's, showing video footage of Essex people as
they describe what makes Essex special to them, followed by images of
the places, buildings and events associated with their stories. Rather than trying to portray Essex with a single symbol, this sculpture uses community involvement to describe 'Essex' through its people and places. The video element was produced in conjunction with Signals Media Arts and St Helena School media department. |
