As part of the design phase of a riverside sculpture project, two schools participated in a series of workshops to produce coloured glass relief pieces. The glass production has many stages, with kiln firings in-between, in order to reach the gorgeous, glossy, rich artworks. This prolonged process, where each stage destroys the previous was a good experience for the participants, with much knowledge gained of different material qualities. This glass workshop was possible due to small group sizes (3-6 students per session for H & S reasons), and the availability of a modern kiln on site. The budget also provided for a permanent sculpture for each school incorporating the student tiles. |
